Choosing the right nursing bra

When to buy a nursing bra?

You are advised to purchase your nursing bra following the first week after the birth.

Why?

Your breasts usually increase one cup size while breastfeeding. This differs though from one person to another. Between the third and fifth day after your birth you will have engorged breasts. They will become swollen and feel painful – it is at this stage that your breasts may increase in size. The typical swelling after the birth usually disappears after 48 hours. During this period you should certainly not wear an ill fi tting nursing bra (that is too small or pinches anywhere on the body).
In order to be absolutely sure that you are wearing the right size, you should wait until after the birth. But if you must buy a bra during your pregnancy, if possible purchase it after the eighth month an buy it one cup size larger than your current size.

What to be aware of?
During breastfeeding, your breast and shape will change so it is important that you have yourself measured periodically to ensure you are always wearing the correct sized bra.

How to make sure your Mammae fits perfectly

Are you already breastfeeding?

Have you just finished breastfeeding?
You should take into account that your breasts will soon fill up with milk. Try the bra with a nursing pad and make sure that you can slide your hand between the nursing pad and the nursing hole. Then you have enough room when your breasts fill with milk.

Are your breasts full of milk?
It’s perfectly acceptable if the bra fits tightly. Check that you can open the fl ap easily and that the elastic fi ts loosely on your
breast (see photo). The inner bra may not be too tight! During breastfeeding (see picture) you need to be able to open the flap
easily. If this fails, then the inner bra is too small.

Are you still pregnant?

Your breasts may continue to grow during pregnancy and when breastfeeding. It’s different for ever y woman . In general
breasts increase one cup size during breastfeeding. Don’t purchase a bra until after the eighth month. Try the bra with nursing p ads in place, put your h and between the nursing hole and the pad and buy a bra that’s one size larger. Note: this is an average calculation; you should be able to open the flap easily when breastfeeding and the elastic should fit loosely onto your breast.
